Description

The Center for Constitutional Rights seeks a part-time campaign coordinator to coordinate work performed under the Coalition for Community Safety (CCS) 2009-2011 campaign plan.  This is a two-year non-recurring position. The CCS work requires coordinating a New York City coalition working to increase transparency and accountability of the NYPD to New York City communities and individuals through legislative and policy reform. The position will coordinate and assist with coalition building efforts, research, communications strategy, campaign launch and statewide outreach. The part-time campaign coordinator will work closely with CCS members, members of CCR’s legal and communications teams and the Racial Justice & Government Misconduct Associate.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, finalize  and monitor the goals of the CCS campaign plan
  • Coordinate coalition and working group meetings
  • Work with coalition to conduct research on policy recommendations and remedies
  • Coordinate and assist in drafting of public education materials and policy reports
  • Oversee community outreach and participate in outreach strategies
  • Assist in engaging affected individuals and mobilizing people to participate in Coalition campaign efforts
  • Assist in the planning of Coalition events and actions

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience organizing a grassroots campaign in New York City or New York State
  • Experience working in coalition with a variety of groups from diverse perspectives
  • Experience working on police misconduct campaigns and issues preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Knowledge and experience using internet applications, word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Experience working on gendered and sexuality based experiences of policing
  • Experience working on issues related to the intersection between immigration and policing
  • Knowledge of framing policing in a human rights framework

 

Compensation

This part-time position is a salaried position for 20 hours per week.  This position is a two-year grant-funded position and is non-recurring. Salary is commensurate with experience and subject to union collective bargaining agreement.  Benefits include pension plan, escalating vacation beginning with three weeks, sick leave, holidays, and 100% organization paid health benefits for employees including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance.
