Advocacy Program Manager, Guantanamo Global Justice Initiative


Aliya Hana Hussain joined CCR in 2010 as a Legal Worker for the Guantanamo Global Justice Initiative and International Human Rights docket. Currently, Aliya helps to manage our public education and advocacy efforts around unjust detentions at Guantanamo, and as part of the legal team travels to Guantanamo regularly to meet with CCR's clients. Within the International Human Rights docket, she works on efforts to hold individuals, including US and foreign government officials, and corporations accountable for serious human rights violations.

Prior to joining CCR, Aliya was a Legal Assistant for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Women's Rights Project, where she provided litigation and advocacy support. Aliya holds a Masters degree in Gender, Development, and Globalisation from the London School of Economics and Political Science and graduated from Vassar College with a degree in History.
