Biography

Ghita Schwarz joined the Center for Constitutional Rights in January 2012.  She is lead counsel in Aguilar v. ICE, challenging immigration agents’ widespread practice of conducting warrantless home raids of Latinos in the New York area. She also serves as co-counsel in NDLON v. ICE, a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking records related to ICE’s Secure Communities program and Vulcan Society Inc. v. City of New York, a Title VII class action on behalf of African Americans applying for employment with the Fire Department of New York.  Ghita came to CCR after five years at LatinoJustice PRLDEF, where she litigated constitutional and civil rights cases on behalf of Latinos and immigrants. Previously, she served as a Chadbourne & Parke Fellow at the Door Legal Services Center, representing young people in immigration and family court, and as an Equal Justice Fellow at Legal Services for New York City/Queens Legal Services, representing children and families in education law proceedings.   Ghita is a graduate of Columbia University School of Law and Harvard College.
