In August 2014, the United States Government will be reviewed by the United Nations CERD Committee with regards to its human rights commitments under the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racism (CERD). This periodic review process will take place in Geneva, Switzerland. In the coming months, this page will be updated to reflect CCR’s engagement with the review process.
In June 2013, the U.S. Government submitted an official report for consideration by the CERD committee.
CCR contributed to the 2014 review process through signing onto, contributing or authoring the following shadow reports:
- 2014 CCR report (along with other endorsing organizations) on the Suspicionless Surveillance of Muslim Communities and the Increased Use and Abuse of Muslim Informants.
- 2014 CCR report on the Communications Management Units (CMUs).
2008 CERD Review Process
The 2014 review process follows a previous review by the CERD Committee which concluded in 2008. CCR contributed to the 2008 review process through signing onto, contributing or authoring the following shadow reports:
