Please join CCR and our partners in the No Separate Justice (NSJ) campaign for our monthly vigil on August 3rd as we continue to shine a light on government abuse in the realm of domestic terrorism prosecutions.

This month, long-time human rights activist and attorney Lynne Stewart will be joining us to speak about the plight of Muslim defendants accused of terrorism in the U.S. criminal justice system, as well as her own experience of incarceration in federal prison.  Lynne was criminally charged in 2002 for distributing press releases on behalf of her former client, Omar Abdel Rahman, an Egyptian cleric, who was subjected to harsh communications restrictions known as Special Administrative Measures (SAMs), which gag prisoners, their lawyers and family members. She was convicted and, in 2009, ultimately sentenced to ten years after the government appealed for harsher punishment.

After serving nearly four years in Carswell, a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas, Lynne returned home in January 2014, at the age of 74, with late-stage breast cancer, after a federal judge ordered her compassionate release. Lynne has continued to inspire with her strength and activism.
