Jobs and Internships

The Center for Constitutional Rights is dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Founded in 1966 by attorneys who represented civil rights movements in the South, CCR is a non-profit legal and educational organization committed to the creative use of law as a positive force for social change. Our work began on behalf of civil rights activists, and over the last four decades CCR has lent its expertise and support to virtually every popular movement for social justice.

CCR is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and actively recruits people of color, women, persons with disabilities, and persons with diverse gender and sexual identities.

Internships

Over the past 24 years CCR has trained the next generation of "people's lawyers" through its renowned Ella Baker Summer Interrnship Program. The program is designed for students in their first or second year of law school. During the summer, law students assist CCR attorneys with their case load while taking part in educational seminars and talks (more about the Ella Baker Program). CCR also has numerous other internships both legal and otherwise, and is willing and able to offer credit when appropriate. CCR also welcomes a limited number of high school, undergraduate and recent college graduates for internships throughout the year. Please check this page regularly as internships will be posted here first.

Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Center for Constitutional Rights.  Currently, we are only able to offer limited volunteer opportunities on an as-needed basis. Due to the high volume of inquiries, we are not able to respond to every email.

Here are a couple of volunteer opportunities that occur on a monthly basis that might be of interest:

  1. CCR hosts monthly volunteering sessions (on a weekday) for people interested in helping with general office tasks, mainly stuffing envelopes and sending out mass mailings. If you are interested, please send an email to volunteer@ccrjustice.org and write “Volunteer: Development Dept” in the subject line. You will be contacted by a CCR staff member regarding upcoming dates and a location if volunteers are needed.

  2. CCR and the National Lawyers Guild host a monthly mailing party (on a weekday evening) of our Jailhouse Lawyer’s Handbook. The Jailhouse Lawyer’s Handbook (JLH) is a resource for prisoners who wish to file claims that their Constitutional rights have been violated while in prison. If you are interested, please send an email to volunteer@ccrjustice.org and write “Volunteer: JLH” in the subject line. You will be contacted by a CCR staff member regarding upcoming dates and a location if volunteers are needed.

If you have not already, we urge you to sign up for our email list to learn about upcoming events, action opportunities and education initiatives
