December 20, 2013, New York – Today, in response to reports that Ugandan lawmakers passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, the Center for Constitutional Rights issued the following statement:

We stand with our clients Sexual Minorities Uganda and other partners in Uganda who are urging President Museveni to reject the bill passed in Uganda's Parliament today criminalizing the very existence of LGBTI persons in the country's social and political life. The idea of this bill and its drafting was heavily influenced by U.S. anti-gay extremists, in particular Scott Lively. Lively also took credit for a similar law in Russia claiming it was his "proudest achievement.”

The Center for Constitutional Rights is dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Founded in 1966 by attorneys who represented civil rights movements in the South, CCR is a non-profit legal and educational organization committed to the creative use of law as a positive force for social change.
