Join us for CCR First Wednesday on July 1, 2015. We’ll discuss secret detention and torture, in fiction and reality. CCR Senior Staff Attorney Rachel Meeropol will be joined by author Ellen Meeropol. Rachel Meeropol is lead attorney on Turkmen v. Ashcroft, CCR’s decades-long challenge to the secret detention of non-citizen based on their race and religion in the aftermath of 9/11. Ellen Meeropol’s latest novel, On Hurricane Island, explores a fictional secret domestic detention and interrogation camp for citizens. CCR’s Michael Ratner calls the novel “a chilling, Kafkaesque story about what happens when the United States does to citizens at home what it has done to others abroad.”
