Please join CCR and our partners in Chicago for a Tea Engagement, part of the Tea Project, an ongoing series of exhibitions and performances that offers counter-narratives to disrupt the numbing effects of war and detention. 

Artists Amber Ginsburg and Aaron Hughes work collaboratively to uncover moments of beauty, poetics and shared humanity within little known military histories. Ginsburg and Hughes create scenarios that allow audiences a role in telling the story of our current involvement in war and torture. Setting the stage for these events will be 779 cast porcelain Styrofoam teacups inspired by a curious story of a Guantanamo Bay guard who fell in love with drawings carved on Styrofoam cups by prisoners.

Tea Engagement events will provide a space for first-person narratives, music and poetry. CCR Advocacy Program Manager Aliya Hussain will join a remarkable line-up of local, national and international activists, lawyers, academics, former guards, poets, scholars, playwrights, and community members who will offer diverse perspectives on detention, war, love, and tea. Guests are invited to sit at small tables and drink tea throughout the evening.
